How we verify listings

- Own website required. A business is listed only if it has its own working website. We don't list businesses found only on aggregator or lead-gen directories.
- Name and phone must match. The phone number we show appears on the business's own site. If it doesn't, we remove the number or the listing.
- Serves our area. The business's site must name Springfield or a nearby Hampden County town as its location or service area. The towns we show are the ones the business lists.
- Services from the source. We describe services using what the business says it does.
- License numbers only when confirmable. We show a Massachusetts license or HIC number only when it is published on the business's website or a public state source, and we say which. Otherwise we omit it. A missing number is not evidence of being unlicensed. See how to check a license yourself.
- No invented data. No ratings, reviews, years in business or prices we can't source.
- Dated. Every listing shows "verified on". We re-check periodically and remove businesses whose sites go offline or no longer match.
